Victorian Times

As time progressed mantelpieces kept the same idea to reflect on the occupancy but elected different parts of the family. The victorian era was where a mantelpiece would show the social status of the family, as well as there own personal tastes, postcards, photos and decorative pieces, would line the top of the mantel. This really became the hub and centre of the home. The victorian generation had more ornaments than the previous eras which meant that more fireplaces were being put in new pre-built pre-fabricated designs that started to emerge with more shelving and mirrors to reflect light around the room.

Central Heating

Once again time moved on and technology advanced meaning that the need for fireplaces wasn't needed as much. This meant that newer homes didn't have fireplaces automatically put in as central heating can heat up multiple rooms at the same time. This meant that the classic place to put all your ornaments changed as time moved on television became the focal point of the room. The televisions started off really deep this meant that people used this place to display their objects, later a new tv console stand was developed making this a modern place to add personal touches.
