'Tate Thames Dig'

This piece of art really interested me and captured my interests. At first, you think it is just a normal display unit with random objects but when you dig a little bit deeper you find out that all the items that were used in the exhibit are from the river Thames, which is incredible as there were pieces that the branding was from years ago.

it took a big team of people to find clean and classify the items that were found. these items ranged from children's toys to bones and teeth from humans and animals. Mark Dion classified the items by what they are and not by there historical value which means we can see the development in the design and how much of a certain thing there is along the Thames banks. it also intrigued me how certain things came to be on the riverbank and what the story of each item was.

To find the items he went to the north and south bank of the Tate Modern which is shown by the two sides of the cabinet. This can help the onlooker see the difference between each bank as on the southern side there was more general waste as this is where most of the tourists walk along the river to get to the Tate, London Eye, National theatre and other attractions. Unlike the northern side which doesn't have many attractions.

i also enjoyed the fact that he created a secondary piece in the space where he added a locker full of all of the equipment, uniform and items that he used while he was creating the piece which gives us a smaller dive in to what happened in the weeks it took to collect all the items.
